47 merc.had tank cleaned and sealed.is it possible to test stock sender and gage using a 6 v lantern battery,before installing sender in the tank,and if possible,how to route test wires.

you might do a search, i read something a while back on how to check for ohms on a sender but don't recall details.

Certianly can. Use 3 clip leads. One from battery neg to one terminal on the gauge. One from the other terminal to the sender teminal. The last from the sender flange to battery pos. Move the float and observe the gauge action. These systems do not react quickly so allow a 10 to 15 seconds for a reaction.
