Just a Suggestions
It would be cool if you could be identified by what type of builder you are...for example "restorer", "hot rodder", "resto mod" etc. Maybe have the option to choose what you are when setting up profile. Have an icon that shows up near your name???
The reason: I often ask questions referring to restoration - exactly how things were done back when the car/truck was originally built. Often guys suggest using modern fixes... which is not for me. Just a suggestion to help us when trying to get information. |

Re: Just a Suggestions
You could put that type of information in your own signature so other folks here would know what you are and what you are doing. Some here, like myself, could fit into all the categories that you mention or more. Just my thoughts.

Re: Just a Suggestions
Some time your asking a Question on here helps some one else who was reluctant to ask.
Or may have the same question at a future date. Then be able to look it up in the archives for the answer. So keep asking the Questions then pick and choose through the answers at what works for you. In your Question you may want to Add AS HENRY BUILT if in fact is what you want. There are a lot of Guys on here that may know how it was even when they choose not to build that way. |

Re: Just a Suggestions
It also helps when you identify what you are working on, year, model, etc. Also pictures if possible are very helpful. Just my 2 cents.

Re: Just a Suggestions
40,
Like most here I am a 'blended guy'. My '41 1/2 ton looks very stock..interior, not lowered, semi concealed exhaust ....but with a stroker '53 Flathead, that's me. I just shipped my last percolater fuel pump out this week (very non correct) but at the same time built a bunch of very very correct small and large bowl pumps for my customers that are concourse oriented. Lots of room here for everyone plus right next door is The HAMB ! Charlie ny |

Re: Just a Suggestions
your suggestion has merit....maybe the first sentence of a post could identify what you are working on and what you are doing, restoration, restoration with suped up motor, etc...etc....and I knew Jack....he was my Dad....and I know Jack now, he's my nephew, named after my Dad...lol....Mike

Re: Just a Suggestions
I think it would be a good idea to show a label ,"true hobbyist" or "parts dealer".That way mayby just once a guy could get a hard to find item on the swap section for HIS CAR,not to resell right away for profit.

Re: Just a Suggestions
Gosh I get something from all types of questions that have absolutely nothing to do with any of my preferences. I am glad to have any and all input to my questions.

Ken,
We got 12" of snow real quick here in Buffalo area. Temps hovered around zero. Today it's pushing 50 and the snow is all but gone. Lake Erie really effects the weather . Charlie ny |

Hey Ken, I'll bet you would find a way thru the snow,to the mail box, to pick up a check for that ONE HUNDRED AND FIFTY DOLLAR little glove box latch.

Re: Just a Suggestions
I guess in the case of having multiple "interests" you could identify or have multiple "tags". I typically do identify my vehicle and question pretty accurately to type of interest however more times than not, someone will suggest a "common" fix without fully reading the question. Maybe I expect too much from people. And in response to having that identification in your profile, well I never go to someones profile before giving my two cents on a question.
In any case, just trying to improve the site with a suggestion. This kind of conversation should help with development of the site I hope. |

40fordpu
I would think that if anyone in here admitted to being a hot rodder the traffic police might be sending out e-links to HAMB I read a book once and the author wrote she was raised in a really big house but her parents were always behind in mortgage payments. She wasn't sure if she was poor class or middle class growing up.

Re: Just a Suggestions
I know in my case I am interested in building a stock looking truck, but the flathead is hopped up. If I can not find the original part at a price I can justify I will modify something to work as long as it looks like it could have been there. I admire the purist who hunts down every bolt and nut so it is perfect, but, I figure a car is only original once and as soon as it is taken apart it may look original but it's not. Hopefully there is room for me here as well as others that are hobbyists. I am not a pro nor do I ever expect to be, I just do it for fun.
