Default Roadster Top Tab/Hook

Roadster pro's out there: What is the canvas tab and hook arrangement at the back, bottom center of my roadster top (on the inside), and how is it used?

Thanks!

Shown below is how Ford explained it.

Marco,

I have a '29 Roadster, and the rear window is cased in a separate piece of top fabric, with a horizontal seam along the top edge. The entire window and surrounding fabric can be hinged up and attached to the underside of the top to those snaps that show in your photo.

I never open it up like that, but when I purchased the car, the prior owner always drove it with the rear window open.

Marco,

Thanks so much for providing a copy of that original document from Ford. It's always very interesting to see how they dealt with things back then.

Over the weeks I have tried to lower the top part way and hook it in but it doesn't even come close....so I'm not getting the jist of it.

Also, I don't quite follow what the Ford note says.....do you ever use that tab and hook? If so, what does it accomplish for you and how do you use it, in your own words?

Thanks again!

The idea is that the flap pulls the curtain and curtain light (window) up toward the package tray instead of the curtain light sitting down on the four rubber bumpers. The purpose was to provide a space that allowed for the top boot (standard equipment on the Deluxe) to easily tuck under the folded top.

I suspect the flap won't work on many restored cars due to incorrect window height and other dimensional deviations from original equipment. Although I haven't tried mine It should work since the folding irons and wood bows are original, and the rear curtain is made to the original Ford drawings.

Mine works. New LB top and bows, installed by myself.

Thanks Marco.....I think I got the idea now....I'll go try it, because I actually somehow scraped that window up back on the bumpers (new top/window on now) - so I don't want to mess it up again...........again, thanks.

PS: So you leave the flap/window in, fastened all around or pop it free from its fasteners in the back? Thanks,
