Longtime Model A mentor Terry Oberer from st. Louis lost his battle with cancer earlier today. Terry was one of the founders of the Missouri Valley Region MARC over 50 years ago. We are very thankful for his guidance and for his friendship for those many years. He will be missed by all.

Sorry for you guy's loss. So much is taken away from us by that illness. I lost my father/Model A mentor, to cancer also. I hope a cure is found soon.

Sorry to hear of Terrys passing. He use to bost on the model A forums and I have missed reading his posts for the past few years. He was really one of the guys in the know about model A's. He use to have a web site with all kind of NOS and good used model A parts at very reasonable prices. This was probably ten years ago. I remember there was a picture of him looking at you through the hood of his 33 four cylinder Ford coupe. I once bought some NOS Champion spark plugs in their original boxes. He was a good guy to talk and deal with.

I met Terry at Dallas in 08. I had the unique opportunity of spending about two hours talking "shop" with him in the hot, hot Texas sun. I have since talked to him on other occasions in the last couple of years. He was a great person, a honest man who knew his trade very well. As with all who pass from us, he will be sorely missed. Rest in peace, Terry!!!

Very sad news indeed! I first met Terry about 5 years ago and knew right away that he was "THE GO TO MAN" when it came to Model A's. I don't think there was anything Terry couldn't fix and he was an instant friend to everyone he met. We have lost a true friend and a wealth of knowledge.

Terry was truly a best friend to us. His home on Traci Lane was always open and we couldn't drive past St. Louis without saying overnight. He often said his "light was always on" for us and, I'm sure, many others. I couldn't mention that I was in need for a special Model A part for, if I made that mistake, it would show up in the mail in a few days. He loved our grandchildren and so enjoyed our four grandaughters singing gospel songs for him. He was a marvelous gentleman and it was a priviledge to call him "friend". Our lives were enriched by his friendship............

I'm also sorry to hear this. Terry sold me some Genuine Ford NOS gears that are in the transmission of my sedan. Quietest A transmission I ever drove. I think of him sometimes when the car is climbing a hill smoothly in second gear. He was a good man. I'm sorry I never met him in person.

I too am saddened by the loss of Terry. Although I feel blessed to have known him for years, it does seem like that time has been WAY too short. We definitely have lost some dear friends of our hobby in the last year!! God Speed Terry O.!

Gar & Crew,
This has been a difficult day but a good one, as he is in peace and not suffering. Terry mentored me this past 35 years since I joined the Missouri Valley when I was 17. We were just at Oshkosh in June vending parts and I am so thankful we made the trip. He was my swap meet partner and best friend. I looked forward to his daily call or two asking "what are you working on today?" He guided and helped me with everything Model A.... Terry never married as Model A's and his dog (s) were his partners... Terry's memory is survived by his brother Eric and sister in law Donna and his vast family of Model A friends. So many conversations, so much fun... and life was so enriched. I think one of our guys in the Missouri Valley members said "If God would need his Model A fixed Terry would be the chosen one". I can certainly say that all of us in the Model A community have been blessed and better off with Terry's teaching and enormous and vast knowledge to our hobby. His generosity in sharing information and teaching have enriched us all. Gar, I know personally how he cherished your friendship with you. Thank you for including the photo above. It is perfect and depicts him exactly... focused and intent on everything Model A. Godspeed my friend, Larry Shepard St. Charles, Missouri Last edited by larrys40; 08-05-2012 at 11:13 PM. |

Condolences from Bill & Mary Lee. Over the years, Terry answered several of my questions on FordBarn by E-Mail and even called me on the phone several times and explained in detail the reason for his solution to my A-Model problems. Rest in peace my friend.

Sad news indeed. Seems like I've known him forever, enjoying his visits at Hershey and at Model A National meets. The hobby has lost a very knowledgeable Model A'r.

It seemed to me that there was no mechanical thing that Terry could not fix, and he appeared to relish the challenge. He was a kind, generous man who took a losing hand (incurable illness) and played it masterfully. He used the extra time that treatments afforded him to continue attending Model A conventions, swap meets, and numerous MVR MARC events. Just last month, he made another trip to Colorado. He loved to travel to the high country. I am grateful to have known him.

We have lost a wonderful friend. It was good to see him at Oshkosh and seeing his condition I could not help to think it might be the last visit with him. God speed to Terry and we pray for his family.
