began gathering parts for a speedster andfound a set of shay rims; think they are 18 inch. what exact size tires did these abortions use?

I believe they are 5.50x18. They were the same size tire as the 32 fords. But shay wheels are only 4 lug I'm not sure how they'd fit model T axles.

They fit Pinto hubs!

Yes they fit pinto hubs because a Shay is a pinto with a fiberglass body. They also fit the mustang 2 four bolt hubs.

I 've already adapted pinto hubs with the rotors machined off to the front. Plan to use 4 lug brakes on the rear. This will be a low dollar FUN project.

Don't know where your located anteek but I have 4 brand new tires that fit the shay wheels. 3 are a knobby style like old dirt track cars and 1 is a standard road tire. I believe they're all firestone.
