Flathead road test......
Had a chance to test our record attempt 1949 Ford Truck with flathead.
Truck will run the ECTA XF/PP flatheadx /production pickup class next week in Willmington Ohio. Our gps shows 104 mph ( good enough) . |

Walt , Theres more info at www.gasolinealleyshops.org We built this truck as a group of guys for Bonneville. Three to four different shops and approx 15 people . The engine is a 279 cu in flathead, snyder camshaft, offy heads , offy intake , 600 holley four barrel and a vertex magneto. Rear axle is a nine inch ford with a 3.73 third member and a five speed transmission. We ran 96.7 mph in 2006 at Bonneville and took a real lesson on Utah air and elevation. We have since found 40 more hp and today was the first interstate ride before the ECTA meet. We do plan a day on a chassis dyno for some air fuel and timing adjustments before leaving next friday morning for the Ohio meet. Our run today was in fourth gear ( 1/1) and we ran the GPS up to 104 mph.. Fifth gear would only run 88 mph.....overdriven at .63 od... |
