cleaning inside 37 flathead
I have a 37 flathead out and apart and am painting it and replacing the head gaskets before putting it back in the car. There are very little ridges in the cylinders so looks like it is good mechanically.
I'd like to clean out: Any suggestions on how to do it? |

Doesn't look bad . I would leave it unless you are going to do a total tear-down.

Re: cleaning inside 37 flathead
I cleaned out a used engine, in car, by removing the pan and intake... Put a drain pan under it, a small coolant pump and solvent to recirculate solvent... Lots of brushing up top, a bit more under... Ran it a bit and changed the oil...

Re: cleaning inside 37 flathead
I don't know if I would want to stir things up too much if it is crunchy build up like some oils do. If it is waxy (parafin base) like pennsylvania oil I would do like Karl said if set on doing it. Pull the tin shields off the center oil tube.
