Both assemblies were initially dipped in enamel (gloss finish) assembled and installed, --or visa-versa depending on the year of the e-brake shaft. Areas of paint that were damaged (i.e.: installing the arm or peening the pin) were likely sprayed with pyroxilyn (semi-gloss) as a corrosion deterrant.

As far as the Judging Stds. or adjudication is concerned, all that is required of the frame or the assembly is for it "...to be painted Black, and not rubbed out". It is my opinion the reason it is written this way in the J/S is to give leniency towards the restorer in this area. More of this is covered in the Faint & Refinish Guide however MARC does not recognize nor want that book to be used in adjudication.
