Did you ream the bushings or burnish them in after installation?
I'm wondering if the ends didn't get a bit deformed while installing them. On second though I see where you say they turn easily by themselves. Do they turn hard with the bottom plate installed or also with it not installed? |

Then it is an alignment issue. Perhaps they didn't align exactly when they pressed in..... Perhaps a reamer by hand would clean it up.... Have you ever used one? Please don't be insulted by my asking that question.

Thanks for the reply and yes I use reamers before thanks for asking, It seems to me that it is a meshing problem the shaft itself with the gear on it is very smooth turns easy there is no slop in the brass bushing and the shaft, if you take this shaft out then just install the idle gear it also very smooth no drag, if you install both of them this is were you get the drag i did not have to ream the bushing the shaft went right in. Does the main shaft need to have play thanks Allen |

Are these new gears or the old ones. If new, do you have the old ones to try??

I have run into this problem with the cheaper rebuild kits. Never with the melling. You just have to put something on the gear to find the high spots and file them off. I have used prussion blue and just magic marker.

I looked up the melling site and I find a price on the kit or how to order one. Anyone have an idea?
Mike

I found one dealer - Northern Auto Parts
http://www.northernautoparts.com/Pro...ntoryId=440431 This address should take you to the kit they sell Ron/IA Note - I looked on the NAPA & Carquest web sites and they did not carry the oil pump kit amoung their on-line listing. It may be worth while to call your local car parts store and check.
