Anybody know of a number for the modern equivalent of the model A
waterpump front shaft bearing??

Torrington B-1416 for the needle bearing, and IR-1016 for the inter race.

The needle bearing will very nicely slip inside the original roller bearing outer shell.

The Torrington B-1416-OH needle bearing has an Oil Hole in the outer race. If the oil hole is aligned with the grease fitting, and if the original bearing shell and the needle bearing stay put, the bearing can be greased. It may be that some grease would work its way into the B-1416 without the oil hole, but it would be a iffy thing.

The last time I built a pump with the B-1416-OH, I cleaned all parts thoroughly and used LocTite 620 (Cylindrical Assembly Retaining Compound) at the pump/shell and shell/bearing interfaces. In the fall I will take the pump apart and see if everything stayed put.
