Default King Pin Orientation to Axle/Brake Linkage

My front end is apart on the 160B due to numerous problems....but in putting another set of king pins in, here is my question:

Once the king pin locks are in, what is the correct orientation of the "cupped" top part of the king pin to the axle and brake linkage? Should the open "cup" face the axle etc "straight on" or does the "cup" face slightly forward? (slight twist forward)....to accommodate the brake linkage lowered down and put into the cup?

What threw me off is that, depending on which king pin I used of a dozen or so, the orientations described about VARIED!

I hope I have described this in an understandable way. Can you help?

Thanks.

John

The open cup part is forward of the centerline, but NOT slanting forward. It should face straight inward to support the brake shaft. Be sure to grease all moving parts, and before installing the locking pin in the axle, install the brake shaftmto the king pin and spring perch.

several repro king pins had the locking pin groove machined wrong, so the cup ends up angled. 32 pins will end up angled too. Original ford pins have Ford script on them, and the letter "K" clearly stamped into the pin. Even if your original is worn out, you can use it as a standard by which to compare your repro pin to see if it is correct.

Amen on the repro king pins being machined wrong. I recently bought a set that had originally come from Macs and not only were the grooves wrong, they were marked wrong as far as left and right were concerned. I ended up throwing them out and putting my old ones back in.

Rumor has it that Snyders may have some new ones that are good in late September or early October if you want to wait.
