Hot Rod Works Axle conversion
Has anyone done this conversion. What procedure did you use to machine the axle housing billets. I was think about removing the billets from the housing and using a lathe to machine. I think the billets are only butt welded to the housing.
Anyone have any thoughts on this. I only have access to a large lathe. |

Re: Hot Rod Works Axle conversion
I had them do one on my 40 and you send them your bells and ring gear and they will machine all of it.Tell them what wheel you are running for bolt pattern.Best thing I did for the rear end. Then I put a Mitchell OD in all work

Re: Hot Rod Works Axle conversion
I did this conversion myself. I wanted late model axles and brakes. I had the axle housings cut off and new Ford 9' axle ends welded on. This allowed the use of the later 11 x 2 brakes and a 5 x 5 1/5 bolt pattern. I ordered the new axles and side gears from Hot Rod works. I also had to change the spider gears from the original 12 tooth to the later 11 tooth type .This was all done on a 36 Ford rear axle. It was also converted to open rear with a kit from HRW.
This is the only completed picture I have, I think Jim |

Re: Hot Rod Works Axle conversion
Used their kit and parts on my '34, but converted to open drive with a '47 rear. But the machining is the same. Here is the link to the pictures of the process. If you like, call Warren at the shop, Page Customs, and he'll be glad to answer any questions. He's in Oilville, VA at 804 784-5541.

Yes, it's a fuel pump. I recall it as an Airtex Pump from my local NAPA store Regards Jim |

Re: Hot Rod Works Axle conversion
The Airtex pumps are great - no more worries about cheap pumps, problems, overheating of the pump, etc, etc. I have one installed in my avatar and it's the only way to go if you are not running a mechanical pump.

Re: Hot Rod Works Axle conversion
I'm thinking that Airtex must procure their pumps from different manufacturers. I just discovered that an Airtex 84070 looks just like a Carter 4070 which is what I'm using.

If you go to the Hot Rod Works web-site you will find a picture of the bracket, and the other piece they have.

Re: Hot Rod Works Axle conversion
BobM, this is virtually the same conversion we did on my '34, but converted to a '47 rear using the same method. Worked like a charm.
