Default Ship a fender Maine to Cal

I have a buyer for a high demand fender in California and need to ship from Maine. While I can get it out via a freight handler the cost to ship may rise to 800-1000$. Does anyone have experience with owner/operator drivers who move parts across the country... like uShip, CitizenShipper, Roadie, or others..any recommendations?

I used Fastenal to send a motor to Texas….you’ll have to look on their website to get specifics ……Mark

And I shipped a cummins 6at genset diesel from Texas to Washington for 400.00. Yellow Freight quoted 1250.00. With research I found 'WESHIPENGINES.com' and the funny thing is, it arrived in the back end of a dark brown UPS semi truck/trailer. These are brokerage houses that find room on something that's already coming your way. It's a great business model. Sort of like a motel that isn't too full so they reduce the room to 90 bucks, because clearing 50 bucks is better than an empty room.

Many years ago, I have a similar item shipped via Greyhound bus. It was very reasonable. Not sure if they are still doing this service, but may be worth looking into it. Only snag is item needs to be picked up at their local bus depot near the final destination.

Fastenal looks like a great idea, however, they restrict cross country transport... they have East and West zones only. I've searched FordBarn and found Bill's Auto.. so I sent a request

Heck, I'd quite recently shipped a palleted engine across country via FedEx Freight for $250, fully insured.

In 2022 I shipped 2 early Mustang fenders via UPS Freight. I put them on a pallet and built a light frame around them. They came to my work and picked it up out of the back of my truck. Then maybe 25 years ago I shipped a '50 F1 seat across the country (on a pallet) and DHL Freight was very inexpensive. Took it to their yard, but it went to a residence.

I tried another time to ship something on Roadway but they were higher than a cats back. They are gone now.

I have used U ship on several items and the results were great. They are my first shipper for large items. I have saved those shippers information for future shipment's. Then I would go directly to those guys .

I've used Pirate Ship recently with excellent results as well. They use either UPS or USPS and have arranged a corporate deal with them to get their users a much lower rate.

They use existing carriers and do none of their own shipping. I've used them quite a few times and they do offer great rates.

No way would I just wrap this up in a blanket. You need to make a crate or double box it. Lots of work but a lot safer.

Glen... I checked on a shipment at Pirate and the on line quote was 266$... not bad! for 74x12x30 at 150lb which is max. I guess I need to call them regarding how they deal with an awkward sized heavy crate like that. Do you know if they pick up or do I deliver to the UPS store? I will also call them to get more details.

Yes, good price. I've found for heavy items, that their shipping was almost half of what it would be normally. The insurance, which you'd be wise to purchase, is very reasonable too. They do not pickup. You purchase a label and then take it to the shipper, UPS for you. I'd take a number of pictures of the fender and your packaging too.

Hey Kevin, now I remember the East-West Zone thing…..the motor I shipped to Texas…..pretty far West to still be in the East zone…..Sounds like you’re getting some good suggestions…..be nice to meet up with you …..I’m just up the road….I’d like to see your car….Take care….Mark

Kube.. did you ship it from a commercial address to a commercial address? and I assume that FEDEX (or assignee) picked it up at the shipping address (using a forklift)

flatford8 ... sure thing.. I'm in OOB.. and it would be a nice drive out on some country roads to Lyman. ..There are a few guys in this groups from Southern Maine. I am currently on the last phases of getting my coolant system straightened out after a few years of letting the wagon sit. Send me a PM with your contact info + location.

I would definitely box it and purchase the insurance. If you choose UPS as one of the options given, just drop it off at a local UPS store. I have yet to have an issue using Pirate Ship and normal tracking works like it should.
