All:
I pulled the distributor as part of my ongoing checkout of my new car. The points etc were good but I need a new vacuum brake and main bushing which I am procuring. It appears that someone painted the inside and outside of the body silver, and the cleaner that I used removed quite a bit of it. Were these originally painted? And if so what color? I looked on the net quite a bit today but didn't see anything relevant. Thanks, Dave

There are two bodies of different material, Cast aluminum (or white metal) and cast iron. If the body is cast iron a coat of paint is good.
