Default Idle screw thread sealant?

I was looking for vacuum leaks with carb cleaner and found the idle screws weren't sealing. What is the recommended fix? Is it time for a new base from Stromberg?

I put some Permatex aviation form a gasket on the threads and it has made an improvement.

Unless your using new idle mixture screws it could be old screws thread have been damaged and not the Carb base. Suggest using a NEW 10-32 machine screw thread it into the base and see how it fits the thread. Take the old mixture screws and try a new nut on the threads and see how it fits. There are two parts on the 97 that appear like the same parts on a 94: The idle air tubes and the idle mixture adjustment screws. Don't get them mixed up! they are very different.

Well aware of the Idle Jets vs Idle mixture screws. I actually just replaced every brass part in the carb with the exception of the float and the butterflies. I detected the leak while running the new mixture screws.

Would wrapping the threads of the screw with very fine brass wire and then inserting be a possible solution?

Some of the Holley four-barrel carbs I've played with have a foam "doughnut" on each of the idle jets that seal them to the carburetor body.

Clive of Stromberg stands behind his product and will always make it right.Contact him if you have an issue. A friend here had an issue with an E Fire that was 1.5 yrs old. He replaced it with a new one and paid shipping plus the customs duty charge. We sent the defective one back after receiving the replacement.

How about an O-ring and small washer under the spring. Hardware stores usually have a good assortment of the rings.
