Default Saving an OE '39 Merc Trunk Mat

I had been putting off addressing an in/op gas gauge in my '39 Merc, suspecting the sender, and knowing I would have to lift up or remove the trunk mat to access the little panel to remove the sender. The trunk mat is original and VERY BRITTLE, pick it up at any edge and come away with a quarter size piece of mat. Mentioning this to my wife, she suggested that if we could remove the mat, she would bond cloth to the underside of major existing cracks and then bond cloth to the entire underside, holding it all together. The following pics show Lori's efforts.

That was good outside of the box idea. I hope it works out .

That made my day. I like to save and use original parts if I can. Tell your wife that’s a great job saving that mat and I am sure that method will be copied..

I have a repop front floor mat for my '51. When I took it out of the box, it had one crack by the accelerator pedal. This looks like good solution. Can you tell me what she used to do the bonding?

Great smile, by the way.

Lori used Scotch Super 77 permanent spray adhesive. Might also mention she applied all the DynaMat in the'51 too

Nice to have a "Helper" for a wife. That's what God created them for.
