I have a relative interested in buying my 1940 ford pickup. It’s been in storage since the mid 60’s. The truck is missing the grill and hood trim and one headlight bezel. Front and rear glass need to be replaced. Front and rear cab corners are rusted. Frame was sand blasted and painted before storage. Pretty much all original parts, brakes, rea rend, front end, minus some of the nuts and bolts. Clean title. He doesn’t want to purchase the flat head or transmission. Located in southern Minnesota. What would be a fair value? I'm not looking for offers at this time. Thanks for the Help

"He doesn’t want to purchase the flat head or transmission"
If he is planning on putting a modern motor and transmission in it you should charge him double what it's worth. Max I would personally pay for that is $3200. Getting it back on the road will be a massive project. |

There was a 1940 Ford pickup on BAT auctions that just ended. It was a no sale at $16,000 high bid.

Also, I cannot tell what year the bed is off of either. Does it have a tailgate? If so, show more pictures of the bed and the tailgate. |

I think, based on the pictures, even if it had the correct rear fenders, this truck discussed in this thread is probably closer to the $3200 amount mentioned, without the engine or trans being included. It's missing a lot based on the pictures, and if the nuts, bolts, running board, brackets, handles, trim and other pieces are there, then the value goes up accordingly. The pictures help, but a lot is missing. |

No engine, no tranny, he won’t want the diff or the suspension, and then he wants disc brakes. Maybe he just wants to fill his swap meet spot with parts. Make him a lowball price with no conditions attached, get it outta your hair and make both if you happy.

My uncle and Dad owned the truck and there both deceased. I was always told it was a 40 and the cab card showed it as a 40 and now its titled as a 40. I put some better pictures of the fenders on the post. Thanks for your help, The only rust is all four cab corners.

The rear fenders are NOT 1940. Sadly (for you) the correct rear fenders are rare and as such, expensive.
Still, lots of good pieces there. If you parted this out, there's more than $3200 in parts... easy.

IMO, having gone through this process several times, on both ends of the stick, is that neither party will be happy. If the buyer makes it a rock crawler and every time you see it it makes you think your father and uncle will roll over in their grave, then don't sell it to him. If the buyer wants a project truck and wants to pick and choose what parts he wants and will soon tire or be upside down in it, then he will always hold it against you.
Either give it to him and never bring it up again, or give him a price that he will not accept and move it on to someone who will appreciate it as your father and uncle did. But I do not recall where an estate type transaction worked out "win/win". It has the potential to be "lose/lose" and it will possibly cause family issues. JMO. |

the fenders and tailgate look to be the long running 53 to 79 box. More common, but still hard to find a good one. New, that box is 2200, plus 2 new fenders at 500 each, tailgate extra? and none of it Ford quality. Its not 1980 guys, times have changed.

The rear fenders appear to be from a 53-56 F-100. The originals were probably damaged beyond repair. Has the potential buyer made an offer?

No. He wants to now what I'm asking. I just want to get a good idea what I should ask. The fenders threw me. It looks like those are the fenders in the 1955 so they must of been replaced before my uncle bought it.
