This speaks volumes about Mr. Sanders. Keep to your roots and remember where you came from. Here he is with his 30/31 Standard Coupe and apparently still keeping it up into the 1950’s. I like the thought behind all of this. Don’t go above your raisin’.

I read the story of Colonel Sanders while in high school. The man found no success in life until he started the chicken thing. He rode around the countryside with his pots in the trunk, demonstrating his recipe.I forget who took a chance and back him,but it was the first thing the Colonel did that paid off. That picture is hanging on the wall in the entryway of the Hookset N.H. KFC.I kind of wondered if they all have that.

I’ll look. I haven’t been in a KFC since my kids were little and they were giving away Beanie Babies.

In a documentary I saw about Harlan Sanders' life, while he was running his filling station before he became rich and famous, he actually took a pot shot at a bothersome neighbor. He didn't kill the man, but he got into a lot of trouble. This was before the white suits and kindly grandfather image that was carefully crafted by the KFC Public Relations Department. He was a fairly cantankerous man in real life, if this documentary is to be trusted. 'Sure made a wise business decision turning from pumping gas to deep frying chicken, though! And he made a wise decision to own a Model A!!!

Some of the folks that purchased franchises from him were not following the rules that were set up in the license agreements. Harland would travel to the stores and check up on them. When he found fault, he would be cantankerous. He would shut a sore down if he found fault that wasn't immediately corrected. It was his way or the highway but it made things so that they could be consistent throughout the system. He wanted the food to taste the same at every location. That likely wasn't as easy as it seemed back in the day.

The thing that really sped up his process was the use of pressure cookers. I guess his early development was such that he had the pressure pots all over the place. Eventually, they developed special cooking equipment for larger volume. That was as close as he could get to fried chicken fast food.

My first job was at KFC way back in 1974. I made $1.60 per hour. I actually met the Colonel at a company event a year or so later. I don't remember much about him as we only shook hands and talked for a minute or so. I wish I had known he was a Model "A" man back then. I bought my first "A" in 1973 ... we would have had something interesting to talk about.

I read once he was afflicted with Tourette Syndrome, where you just start screaming obscenities out of the blue
Probably developed that while trying to take that stainless steel cowl band off of his coupe without destroying it, or trying to get a Rick Pack to fit on his car.....

I wonder if he still had his A when he moved to Canada in the early 60's?
