Smile Model A Mech brakes on '40 rear axle?

Try not to laugh. For reasons of my own I am considering putting an open or torque tube '40 rear axle under my Model A but want to retain the 4 wheel mechanical brakes. I am aware of the torque tube mods that need to happen.
Soooo, why wouldn't it work when hydraulics can be adapted to model A....I'm just going the other way!
Fire away!

As long as suspension for the rear moves in the same arc as the rods so the center to center distances for the brake shafts stays constant with suspension movements.

What are the advantages of a ‘40 rear axle?

More than likely it will be about 2" wider than the Model A rearend.
Make sure tires/wheels fit as you like.

Better pinion support in differential. I randomly picked 1940 as all the later banjo's are pretty much the same inside

A few important modifications will have to be made unless you have another angle to achieve them. The '40 torque tube and drive shaft will need to be shortened or parts interchanged to make it fit a Model A. Also, spring perches will have to be made/modified for the '40 axle to ride under the stock Model A spring pack. There may be more, but those are the ones that come to mind right off.
