Default Steering box repair

Hi.
I have a 2-tooth steering box with a damaged steering shaft. There are no threads above the steering wheel taper.
Can I use the inner column from a 7-tooth box to replace mine? I'm guessing the worm is a separate part, pressed on.
I've searched a bunch of parts catalogs, and can't figure out if those parts are interchangeable.
Thanks.

No, you can't use the 7 tooth shaft but the parts vendors sell a repair part to fix your problem. It's basically a short section threaded on both ends and you drill out the steering shaft, run a tap down through the hole and thread the new part in.

New shafts are available with a new worm already pressed on. That repair piece will work if there is enough left on the end. It has to have the taper and keyway to work. A person needs to be proficient in use of the tap required for that repair. Shortening a steering shaft is a lot of work if person has a 29 two tooth. The first month or so of 1930 also has a short shaft but all the later ones are are long.

This is a job that should be done on a lathe to be sure you get it right.

Thanks for all the input.
That threaded plug would do the trick. I have a lathe, but it's going to depend on the diameter of that steering shaft.
I think it has to be <1" to fit through.
I'll check tomorrow.
Otherwise, it's good to know I can buy one.

It's smaller than 1", so you should be good. FWIW, it's possible to do with everything still in the car, but you have to be careful and pay attention to what you're doing.
