When I was a teenager many years ago I found out by accident that when coasting down hill when the ignition switch malfunctions, kaboom. After several times the muffler blew apart, man that was loud and obnoxious. Dad give me a round heavy duty truck muffler, cut the old muffler out and welded the new heavy duty muffler in its place. It was a little louder than the original muffler, didn’t sound like an A, couldn’t make it kaboom again.

Take your current exhaust from mainifold to tailpipe to your local muffler shop and have him bend up a straight pipe. What you save on oversize shipping will probably cover most of the cost.

Red's Headers in SoCal makes a header for Model A/B engines. It is the header only, with a flange to bolt your own exhaust pipe to it. [email protected]

Auto parts stores sell a number of exhaust pipe elbows, straight sections, couplers and clamps. You could cut and fit an exhaust system together. But the best solution is to get a muffler shop to weld something up for you.

I have cut open a Model A muffler and removed the baffles. It was too loud to use and didn't improve the car's performance. The Ares performance muffler I bought works just as well as a straight exhaust and has the right amount of Model A exhaust sound.
