1956 Fairlane on Assembly Line
Saw this on another forum and found it interesting. I would have guessed that the body would have been mounted before the front clip, but obviously not!!

Wondering which assembly plant this is? My father worked at the Atlanta plant '52-'82. Note the family standing at left watching the assembly of their car.

Must have been a reason, but we will probably never know. Thanks for the picture.

That picture must be staged. They would never install the front clip before the body got decked. Plus I don't think they would allow people that close to the line to watch their car being built. I've visited quite a few Ford assembly plants, and that was never done.

Re: 1956 Fairlane on Assembly Line
I remember seeing that picture in a social studies book when I was in the 3rd grade, 1959. If you look at the car behind this convertible, you'll see it too has the front clip installed.
As far as the people watching that close, my grandparents took the train to Detroit, bought a new '49 Olds and watched it being assembled. Grandpa told me he was able to touch the fenders as it came down the line. |

I once worked for a man that had an Industrial Engineering degree. I wonder how that degree program has changed over the years with the advent of robotics. |

Re: 1956 Fairlane on Assembly Line
My question is why is the front clip sitting at an angle?

Re: 1956 Fairlane on Assembly Line
I still say they would never install the front clip before the main body.
As far as the car behind it, you can't tell from the picture if the body is on the frame or not, and as far as the video mentioned of the '41 aseembly line, is like comparing apples to oranges. Sal |
