I "fixed" mine buy bead blasting it then with an extra fine machinist file and LOTS of time and patients to remove any of the pitting in the metal that was left!!! Mine looked to have been worse than yours and had much less chrome left on it than what yours appears to have. I would get the chrome stripped off of it first!!!

Or just give it to a competent plater to re-chrome. They'll do the prep work to eliminate the pits.
