Default Rebuilding a '51 226 H fuel pump

I have a '47 tonner with a '51 226 H and am running it on an electric pump, but I really prefer a mechanical pump. I have the original mechanical which is leaky. In searching for a kit I find this one at Ecklers which states it is also for the V8. Does that sound correct? Also I have never rebuilt a fuel pump. Is it quite straightforward? I know I can send mine out, but have been in penny pinching mode lately. Does this newfound interchangeability suggest I can buy a V8 pump kit anywhere and it will work? Thanks in advance.

Wow! Probably well close to a hundred bucks with tax and shipping. At that price, I'd check with Charlie Scwhendler before I jumped in myself.

That was quick! Thanks all. I just called them and got voicemail that says they only answer their phone on Mondays and Fridays, so I guess I gotta wait. I can do that. Anybody here confirm that their pump that I linked to also fits the H pump? Mine is an AC 5552396

I don't see any mention of fuel pump kits, just carb, but will call them in the morning. Thank you Mark.

I’ve never had to find parts for the 226, but 12 years ago I bought a pump from Ecklers for my ‘50 it lasted one year. I got one at my local NAPA and it still works fine. Suppliers parts change but I think I would find something from a different vender…….Mark

A leaking pump....where is it leaking from. A rebuild kit may not be able to fix a leak depending upon where the leak is.

I can't remember where it was leaking from. I will look very carefully for cracks and check surfaces for flat at rebuild time.

Could also check with cowboy John. Much praised on FTE for a kit. No sense sending off carbs and fuel pumps to be rebuilt.

Thanks. Lots of youtube videos on the subject. Looks pretty simple. I tried calling a guy in Upstate NY who lists ethanol resistant USA made kits. His recording said something about taking time off. I found a new pump in an airtex box on my shelf. It had a glass bowl and was V8 style. On the barcode I see a date of 2015 so it isn't ancient. Says 1951-1953 V8. I think it came in a box of parts I came across. Half tempted to see if the parts really interchange as I have a recent pump on the woodie and that's my only V8. Anybody confirm the guts are the same?

I have learned to lap the split line surfaces on fuel pumps when I put a kit in. You will be surprised at how far from flat the surfaces are. I wet sand with the paper on a very flat surface (I'm lucky to have access to a surface plate my friend has).

I have a 6" wide belt sander with a 3' platen I use for manifolds, but small stuff I use stick on sandpaper on the 1950's Delta jointer, so that is something I will do.

Original pumps, at least the late V8 AC pumps, had a little “bridge” holding valves into housing. I have seen replacement pumps with valves pressed in. Can’t mix the two. Not sure if airtex have pressed in valves. Be worth a look to see if valves and diaphragm interchange

A WW2 Jeep pump with hand primer and WW2 IHC M-2-4 pump I restored with Then and Now kits. Bodies I chromated and replated steel parts. Kits may be expensive, but fellows I did these for had no complaints

The youtube video showed the pressed in ones. I guess they'd have to be the same type. Might be the weekend before I can do some looking inside.
