1929 Ford Model A. Front Windshield frame has shifted (assumed from past restoration) and is now slightly misaligned horizontally preventing closure.
I noticed screws along inside hing. Anyone know if the frame could be shifted back on the hing or is this something that is more intrusive to be resolved? Was digging around for info but had no luck so I thought I would ask the experts here. Thanks Dan |

Update... as it turns out while it has shifted a few mm to one side, what is actually stopping full closure is window frame hitting hood final 1/2 before it can close.

What model is it? Sounds like the hinge has come loose from the header wood.....

In my case the windshield frame hits the hood because my wood is pretty bad above the windshield. I got my screws to hold tight when I shoved dowels in the holes, but the wood frame is so bad that the bolts through the corner brackets can’t hold the header up high enough to clear the frame under the windshield. I made a pair of metal braces to hold it up until it cools off a bit and will get into the header this winter.

Having been here and done this. I'd say the header is gone. Itis time to open the roof and replace the header!!

Tightened the screws and it helped a little.. lifting it up about a 1-2 mm I noticed that the original restorer did not replace all the wood. So I would not be surprised if my header has sagged or is of the same condition as noted in another response. I have two screws missing so I need to fix that. After Tightening the remaining screws I can now close window almost completely. Some were loose and all tightened up into the wood securely. Will replace the missing screws and loosen and re-tighten all to pull up the hing evenly and hope for the best Last edited by ddelproop; 07-27-2023 at 10:20 AM. |
