Spyder hubcaps question
Hello everyone. I have had three of the photographed hubcaps for a number of years and would like to know if anyone has seen hubcaps like them before. The red painted part is steel and the stainless center cap is a separate piece like the standard hubcaps along with the outside spoke cover is a stainless separate piece. Are they something someone has made up? If so it is one heck of a idea! Thank you for your input, Dale.

Re: Spyder hubcaps question
This is what a genuine 1938/1939 Ford Deluxe Spyder Hubcap looks like. The photos of the one that deuce5wndw is enquiring about has the looks of a 1938 Ford Standard Hubcap? |

Re: Spyder hubcaps question
1938 Ford Standard Hubcap. Notice that it looks very similar to the Spyder Hubcap that deuce5wndw is enquiring about? |

Compare the design of this mystery Hubcap that deuce5wndw has with the regular 1938 Ford Standard Hubcap in Post 9 |

Re: Spyder hubcaps question
This is what the 1936 Ford Spyder Hubcap looks like. It is completely different in style to the mystery one that deuce5wndw is asking about? |

Re: Spyder hubcaps question
Thanks Mercman, I suspect you are right and someone added the spoke cover to it. If it helps they were packed in a box wrapped in plastic and in that box there was a really rough 36 cap, but the outside was still good just the center had been smashed so maybe they had cut the rim off some 36 caps.

Re: Spyder hubcaps question
I hate to disappoint but this one has me puzzled. If this is homemade, someone is (was) VERY talented.
From what I can see, there doesn't appear to be ANY "cobbling". Am I correct? MercMan seems to be THE hubcap guy. If he can't explain this, well, I'm not even in the running. Sorry

Re: Spyder hubcaps question
No, you are right it is very well done if it's homemade! Mercman nailed it about the 38 standard cap. I'm not disappointed, hey a guy can't know everything can he? thanks, Dale.

Re: Spyder hubcaps question
Thanks Kube and deuce5wndw for your compliments. The above photos are part of my display of Early & Later Ford Hubcaps. I started this collection many years ago and would have a difficult time trying to duplicate it these days. Living in Australia made it more difficult, as Ford Australia never offered Full Wheel Covers on any new Ford sold until the 1965 Ford Galaxie. All of the full Wheel Covers starting with the 1950 Crestliner have been purchased in the USA. I also have a similar display of Mercury Hubcaps, and once again, Ford Australia only sold the Mercury from 1939 to 1948. All Mercury Hubcaps newer than 1948 have been purchased in the USA. Regards Mercman <>< |

Re: Spyder hubcaps question
More Ford Hubcaps on Display. Finishes with the 1964 Fords, as I have run out of room to display more. |
