Default Coil

I have a 59AB engine with the old standard 6 volt box coil. I would like to use the cheaper new coil. But to use to old bracket and the shorter distributor hot wire I can modify the bracket but the new coil has to be inverted (upside down). Will the new coil correctly function in this position? Thanks-

I can recall vehicles that were like that from the factory. I don't think a coil knows which way is up. I have had the wire fall out upon hitting a big pot hole, so make sure it's tight. Happy motoring!

If you look at a Model A, they use the cylinder shaped coil, and they are upside down when mounted in the stock bracket.

I mounted the Mallory coil upside down on a 59AB - worked vey well. Also did it on a farm tractor after getting caught in a rain storm 1/4 mi from the barn.

I cant imagine a coil that would care about its position. Its just 2 wires wrapped around an iron core.

I need a 42-48 coil bracket if you no longer use it. Thanks

I'd get an old original overhauled by Skip Haney. Unless a person forgets to turn of the ignition switch with points closed then it will likely out last a can type coil.
