Default New head puller

Just purchased a new puller from snyders and it has a small metal bar attached to it with a small copper colored wire. IT is about 1.25in. by 3/4in. Can someone tell me what it is for? T.i.A RAY

normally your engine will have one longer stud where you anchor your pop-out cable. the Snyder`s head puller pushes on that stud. you put the spacer on top the other rear stud so that the puller sets flat on all four studs.

If you install the puller, you will find out real quick as to were it goes because there would be a gap between the puller and stud #8.

I liked the recent Visegrip garage Model A rebuild on TV - Roadworthy Rescue (I think). Paul Shinn was helping him out and they stuffed a couple cylinders full of poly rope and cranked the engine over. The head popped right off.

It’s the second-oldest trick in the book. The oldest trick is to pop the head off using only cylinder compression, but as I recall that engine had minimal compression, so the rope trick is the next step.

Possibly closely followed by bent con rods?

A 6V starter wouldn’t bend a connecting rod, it’ll just stop. Worst case, the ring gear would shear.

That’s where my mind went immediately but I don’t know the strength of the parts involved. I assume it’s ok to do it???

I guess it's technically possible. I've never heard of a connecting rod bending when actuated by the starter in a situation where there wasn't enough clearance to rotate. What bends them is hydrolocking, or otherwise running out of room, when the engine is firing – the combustion puts way more stress on the rods than the starter. Also, the rope is compressible, so the peak stress on the rod is much less than if it were hitting an incompressible object.
