Default 1940 ford pickup rear fender

I was told 1938-1941 fenders-truck all fit.

do any of the car fenders come close? specifically the back half pass side?

I can buy a glass one from speedway, but prefer a well used steel one.

what I have now looks like jaws bit it.

42 - 47 pickup rears can be made to fit with some effort. As you can see in the photo I've attached, the bottom is different and there is no indentation for the spare as there is in 1940.

The difference in the front. If memory serves, the 42 - 47 will bolt on "as is". I restore my stuff back to concourse correct, thus the modifications depicted in my photos.

The "footprint" of the running board is different. 42-47 boards are somewhat shorter than 1938-41. There is also a slight "flair" to the fender to as the running boards mount inboard of the outside of the fender on 1942-47 vs flush with 1938-41. There is also a different profile to in inside of the fender between the bed and frame... that is never seen.

Thanks Karl. It is a certainty that your memory is much better than mine.

Check the swap meet section "parts for sale". Use the search "pickup rear fenders". There's a couple of older ads with 40-41 pickup rear fenders. Be prepared to pay a fair amount of money as they are not cheap due to the availability of good pickup rear fenders.

TJ,
You are spot on in your advice. Good quality and correct rear fenders for a '40 pickup are akin to a hen's tooth.

And, if you do find one, it will be for the wrong side. At least that has been my experience.

Speaking of which, anyone have a spare right hand side Edmunds 8BA head?.
