Useful mounting tire tool for 35 rims
B40A6FF7-974E-44F1-9B18-191436C5B683.jpg worked about a hour trying to get rim back on the drum, pry bar ,laying on floor, just to heavy to lift and hit the lug studs which are recessed in rim,,
Welded a rod on a spare lug nut ,machined it to fit thru mounting hole on rim screwed it on stud slid rim over rod and onto studs, easy breezy!! Two might even be better,,,keep in glove box

Re: Useful mounting tire tool for 35 rims
Good idea! Gives you something to easily guide the rim onto the hub.

From what little I understand, or can envision, you welded a long rod onto a nut and then screwed that nut onto the stud, then mounted the wheel on the long stud. How does that help? same size rod, same size hole and still can't see what you are doing.?????????????

Re: Useful mounting tire tool for 35 rims
Look at picture!the rod is just a guide for sliding the wheel onto the drum studs, instead of trying to lift wheel to align the wheel to the studs ,just put wheel onto rod ,after screwing the rod onto a stud,,and push the wheel using rod as a guide to line up holes with studs!

I'll have to make one of your suggested guides and see how this works.

Re: Useful mounting tire tool for 35 rims
That would be a lot easier to make.

That’s why I like my Fargo pu...Chrysler had the decency to have a locating tit on the drums which makes mounting wheels easy peasy.

Re: Useful mounting tire tool for 35 rims
Sounds like a piece of pipe to me! Worst car to mount a tire onto was an old VW bug. Lug bolts, not studs. Your idea would have worked well on them, but a bolt. Also, Mart had a post last month about using a shovel to lift the tire/wheel and pivot it right onto the studs. Between your's and Mart's I hope to never have to lift another 7.50 x 17 ten ply on a multi-piece onto the front studs. Rears are easy with the full floating rear axle. Thanks for the tip!
