I was once corrected when calling the "dash" in my Model A a firewall. Apparently the correct term for the metal piece that most people refer to as a firewall was called a dash by Ford Motor Company. I would like to know when Ford stopped calling it a dash and went with the firewall nomenclature.

Another pre war Ford thing: The intake manifold was called a "valve cover."

It was called a dash board years before automobiles. It hoped to keep dirt off the occupants when the horses dashed ahead.
I don't remember the year Ford stopped calling it a firewall but my memory says in the 70's. Firewall was thought to be a scary intimidating term so they stopped using it for the sake of political correctness. Dash board is a common term for what Ford calls the IP(Instrument Board) or IB (Instrument Board).
