Default Greetings from New Zealand.

Greetings from New Zealand.

I've just put one of these in my shed for a bit of a project.

Looking forward to getting underway.

Yes, VERY original.

Its had newer rockers patched over the originals. Unfortunately that won't wash with the authorities here in NZ so they will be coming out and getting replaced.

The only bits that are not straight are;

outer rocker skins
The front cross member has been replaced and one of the brackets is poorly repaired.
There is a patch left side of the tail pan and the cross member beneath has rotted away.
There is a hole in the left rear wheel well behind the front section of the quarter panel.

there is a bit of fuel starvation too...

Can someone please help me Identify this distributor?

I don't think its original.

The vacuum source is off the front outlet of the teapot.

Someone (previous owner) switched to a 57/ dual advance distributor most likely to rid the LOAD-O-MATIC distributor. The vacuum advance feature will not operate correctly unless it has been modified and/or if the H4000 has been modified to operate a later distributor design.

There will be STAMPING ID Nos on it for positive identification.

Unhappy Re: Greetings from New Zealand.

You know, it is a bit cruel to hide such a beautiful car just because it has mild cancer.

It needs the sunshine and fresh air ...

As Kultulz said, with the '57 and later distributor design, if it has the original type Holley 4000 teapot 4 barrel carb, the vacuum signal to the dist. advance will not be strong enough, unless someone modified the carb for ported manifold vacuum to the distributor, which is pretty easy to do. If the distributor vacuum port on the carb is still in the original location (high up), then it probably has not been modified.

Your distributor has a curved arm from the vacuum canister, it's more likely a '60 to '64 version than the externally similar looking '57 to '59 dist... which has a straight arm and the points & condenser in a slightly different position on their mounting plate.

The vacuum pressure level from an unmodified '56 teapot carb won't correctly operate the timing advance mechanism of a newer distributor.

Thank you everyone.

I'm tearing down the holley tonight to clean it out. I see if I can see the vacuum sources. There is a block on the back of the carb that went to the wipers that looks to be below the throttle plates.

The fuel tank is out and getting its rust removed. The lines appear okay. The mech fuel pump is also getting looked at as I had to use a electric pump to get some fuel into the carb.

The car runs okay but as soon as you get on the gas to go up a slight incline it acts like it starving for fuel. If look at the flow to the bowl and it's just a trickle. Looks like the float and needle are not adjusted right.

The FLOAT level on your carb should be 1/4" below the gasket surface of the bowl at the toe of the float. That should get you very close to the correct FUEL level of 1/2".
If you need any help with any of the carburetor issues, I can help via email or Ford Barn messages, or over the forum posts. If you are not familiar with the teapot 4 barrels they can be a little tricky.

There is also a fine screen located behind the brass fuel inlet fitting on the carburetor. It could be plugged with contamination, or even missing. There is supposed to a spring behind it to hold it in place against the brass inlet fitting.

Thanks I appreciate it. I had a look as you advised and there is rust deposits in it and more below it (outside of the screen). I'll track the fuel passages to the bowl and clean them out.

Cheers
