Insurance
My comprehensive insurance on my most precious vehicles
is due next month. I wondering if I have good to better coverage. I have been with JC Taylor (Foremost Ins) for the last 20 years with no claims. Has anyone had a problem with a claim under Foremost Ins ??? Is there a better company out there for the same money ???(3.50 per 1000) Are there any companies to stay away from ??? |

Re: Insurance
If your regular company that insures your daily drivers has antique car insurance you might be better to go with them. I have AAA on everything, cars and house, and I get a super deal. No one else can come close and a great company and yes they have antique car insurance. That way you get super multi-policy discounts.

Re: Insurance
I have had Taylor insurance for over 40 years. In 2004 a hurricane
hit my building damaging a number of cars. Formost adjuster was there in a few days. He agreed with my estimate of the damages and wrote a check right on the spot. I went back later with some damages I missed and he sent a check. I don't think it gets any better than that. G.M.

Re: Insurance
Foremost is JC Taylor's underwriter. Premium is still paid to JC Taylor.

Re: Insurance
I have had Hagerty for years. It is an "agreed value" policy which will insure for that amount. This is important with collector cars. If the value figure is very high, they may ask for an appraisal. So far, I haven't had to do that. Adding such a vehicle to the policy for your "regular" cars usually isn't a good idea. When my '47 was rear ended a few years ago, the carrier for the "at fault" party (the other guy) they tried to low ball me, and I showed them the value on my Hagerty policy and they revised their position. Most of us drive a limited time each years, and regular insurance may no recognize that factor.

Re: Insurance
My old timer is such that insurance beyond liability for the other guy might be wasted money.
Can/will any of you suggest a carrier? |

Re: Insurance
As insurance is regulated at the state level, you'll need to get suggestions from fellow Illini.

Re: Insurance
I've had JC Taylor for 45 years, only three claims, two for windshields and one for my totaled '63 Studebaker Avanti. I got a check for the full agreed amount (over 20K) in a week. They are excellent in my book.

Re: Insurance
A word of caution; Sometimes you cannot 'buy back' your totaled vehicle: it automatically goes to Auction and you can then 'bid' on it. Good friend lost his WW2 jeep as it was paid off as totaled and went to Auction. Bids went real high. Newc

Re: Insurance
I have been with Haggerty for years currently litigating a total loss on my 46 Ford Coupe . I purchased for $25 a year their "cherished salvage option" so if the vehicle is a total loss I get the salvage back at no additional cost or deduction from the settlement best $25 I ever spent I recommend it highly!!

Re: Insurance
I use American Modern. I was referred to them by USAA, my regular company. I have a very fairly priced agreed value policy.

Re: Insurance
I have American Modern and they give you the option of occasionally driving the car to work for a slightly higher premium. Two of the cars that I had insured through them were totaled by Hurricane Harvey and the claims process was pretty painless. It did take longer than I would have liked, but I think they were just overwhelmed by so many flooded cars.

Re: Insurance
My home and vehicles are all covered by American Family. They have a very reasonable coverage for these seldom driven vehicles. Basically coverage is the same as your regular car but you will have to agree on the value of your classic, may need to get an appraisal. Check with an AF agent in your area for the coverage restrictions.

Re: Insurance
Under American Modern, the vehicle is insured for "Occasional pleasure use". Policy says "...used for activities consistent with and related to participation in vehicle exhibitions, vehicle club activities, parades, leisure/pleasure drives, or maintenance." The following are not considered leisure/pleasure drives: 1) As your principal means of transportation. 2) As substitute transportation for a principal means of transportation. 3) To or from work. 4) To or from school or: 5) For business or commercial use. I think leisure/pleasure drives covers a lot of territory. They just don't want you to use it as a regular daily driver to work, etc.. If you're going to do that, don't buy a collector car policy!
