I'm taking on an ambitious project. I've decided to build a 28 roadster with my 28 sport coupe as a working model.
I shelled out cash on rusted out quarter panels as a template to fabricate new ones from. Well, I didn't do enough research and unfortunately bought 1930 roadster quarters. I drove 4 hours, round trip, with gasoline at 138 a liter (5.36 a gallon). I don't think the guy I bought from was trying to mislead me, he thought they were from a 28. I'm hanging them in my garage as a reminder to not be so stupid next time. Anyhow, I'm tracking down a cowl. I have doors that were badly gutted from the inner structure so aim not convinced of their proper dimensions. They're 22" wide, which I know is good but the length...not sure it's right. I was wondering, and I know it's an imposition, if anyone with a 28/29 roadster was willing to work with me by taking some measurements. Specifically: Trunk lower panel below lid Trunk upper panel above lid Door length and width Overall length of th quarter at the bottom Does anyone know if the cab is the same size between 28 and 30's. I was hoping at least the top of the 30 quart could be used to get the cave at the top right for the dimensions. I'm fabricating it all myself, so the measurements are important to me. Thanks in advance. I'm feeling a little down on myself for my frivolous purchase yesterday and am trying to turn things around.....without my wife finding out! |

Why not coupster it?,there are some clean ones out there..it has bigger doors and more interior room, and you dont have to fabricate everything, just some work at the cowl, doors and body rail....

Coupster is a good idea, but I'd like to,be as original style-wise as I can. Besides, a Coupster has no roof. I'm in Canada where a roof is sometimes a must.
How much smaller is the interior? I didn't realize it would be tighter. |

roadster doors are narrower and it doesnt have a package tray behind the seat...you can do a carson top,or if your crafty, run up some top irons for the coupster..but hey,if its a roadster you want go for it..its your car,do as you see fit.

admittedly- the "cupola" is your best bet for enjoyment.
fabricating from scratch can leave you with hideous proportions. |

How about a wood bodied speedster? Some are built similar to the strip hulled canoe which I think originated in Canada. This is a good chance to get creative, and the end result would be a thing of beauty. Ohh!? and probably less work.

I'm going to,use original steel as spatters, so the proportions would be the same.
I suppose interior space could be an issue, now that I think,of it. I've read anyone over 6' tall has space issues in a roadster. I'm only 6'2" but I'm afraid it would be tight. |
