Default Question on fuel pump for Weber

I have a down draft Weber set up on my A. My car is coughing under power. It was only occationally now it's very frequent. I changed the fuel filter with no improvement. If I change the fuel pump what psi should I install. There are 2 types at the local auto parts store. One is a 2 to 4 psi and the other is a 4 to 6 psi. Which one is recommended? If a new fuel pump is not the answer what else should I look at?

It does not take much pressure so the 2-4 psi is adequate however a quick question, .....is your vehicle a 6v or 12v? I have operated a "cheapo" 12v electric pump on 6v negative ground with great results where it was supplying two Holley 94 carbs. Generally speaking, the 6v pumps are more money so if a 12v pump will work for you, it could save you a few dollars.

I have one of the 12v fuel pump kits offered by the Model A suppliers that sell the Weber kits. It is, however, still in the box. Never got around to installing it since it has been working just great just on gravity.

I’m using this Weber setup on my 1928 Tudor used for club touring and have no complaints. My pump is mounted inside the frame using a bolt hole for mounting the splash shield. This pump is recommended for the Weber setup and the fuel pressure should stay below 3.5psi I used the Carter GP60504 12 volt inline pump drawing 4.5amps producing 2-4psi. This pump will operate on 6 or 12 volts pos or neg ground and It’s very small and quiet. Buy at any auto supply or Amazon. I’m getting around 20mpg touring but beware in cold weather the manifold will ice up. Just keep the hood closed and it looks all stock. Mike
