1940 truck rear fenders wire edged?
I am about to restore my 1940 Ford truck rear fenders. They are really really rough and I'll have to make large sections from scratch. They have a wire edge on the wheel opening, and because they are rough and have been welded on a lot, its hard for me to tell if the wire edge is original Ford factory or not. I have worked on 1940 sedan fenders and they just had about a half inch rolled edge. I assumed the truck fenders were the same, but both of mine are wire edged, with about a 5/16 wire. Way bigger wire edge than #9 wire on earlier Ford fenders.
They are both identical, and if they weren't done that way originally, then whoever did it, had done a very nice job at the time. I hadn't planned on doing a wire edge on them, but if it was done originally, then I will. Just need the real info guys. Thanks. |

no wire edge, I made a steel buck that I can make up repair sections, makes it a lot easier.

Thanks. That is what I figured. Someone went to a lot of trouble to "repair" these ones some time in the past then. I will be making the whole wheel opening in one piece. Appreciate the info.

The right side requires the "dimple" to be grafted in for the spare and both sides require a small "protrusion" to be grafted (or made) at the very front - lower edge near the body.
