Default 1940 truck rear fenders wire edged?

I am about to restore my 1940 Ford truck rear fenders. They are really really rough and I'll have to make large sections from scratch. They have a wire edge on the wheel opening, and because they are rough and have been welded on a lot, its hard for me to tell if the wire edge is original Ford factory or not. I have worked on 1940 sedan fenders and they just had about a half inch rolled edge. I assumed the truck fenders were the same, but both of mine are wire edged, with about a 5/16 wire. Way bigger wire edge than #9 wire on earlier Ford fenders.
They are both identical, and if they weren't done that way originally, then whoever did it, had done a very nice job at the time.
I hadn't planned on doing a wire edge on them, but if it was done originally, then I will. Just need the real info guys. Thanks.

no wire edge, I made a steel buck that I can make up repair sections, makes it a lot easier.

Thanks. That is what I figured. Someone went to a lot of trouble to "repair" these ones some time in the past then. I will be making the whole wheel opening in one piece. Appreciate the info.

Rear fenders for the 42-47 are fairly easy to locate and priced decently when found. Although they differ a bit from your '40 fenders, the task to make them identical is much, much easier than repairing what (seemingly) you have.
The right side requires the "dimple" to be grafted in for the spare and both sides require a small "protrusion" to be grafted (or made) at the very front - lower edge near the body.
