Clutch shaft rubbing?
Good morning from Germany,
GERTRUD: FORD A Canada of June 1928, no - no longer a multi-disc clutch! ASK: Clutch and pressure plate have to be new at Gertrud, I am in the engine extension forward! Is it then, when the engine is out, possible to re-disengage the clutch shaft? There is game, I mean: can I good rub in the bell housing ?? because of space to the chassis left and right? Do you have any tipps for my work ? regards from QUESTUS 10:00 o`clock AM North europe |

Re: Clutch shaft rubbing?
I think you are asking if you take the engine out can you replace the clutch. Yes that is the easy way to get to the clutch but you can also do it with the engine in the car. In that case you would have to take the rear end out. I hope this helps.

Re: Clutch shaft rubbing?
Questus I think you are trying to replace the bushings? You can remove the housing and repair on your workbench.

Re: Clutch shaft rubbing?
Folks: When answering Questus, keep in mind that there is a seven hour time difference between Germany and Central Standard Time in the United States. If his replies are not forthcoming immediately, the time gap may come into play. I suspect most of his postings will be in the early AM hours for us, his late afternoon/evening time.

Re: Clutch shaft rubbing?
I will take a stab at answering Questus:
If the engine is out, but the bell housing is still attached to the transmission, there might be some room to get a reamer in to ream the clutch shaft bushings, but I would recommend taking the bell housing off the transmission to do the bushings. It is also very hard to remove the pin holding the clutch arm to the shaft with limited room when it is still mounted to the transmission. My recommendation is to take the bell housing out for that too if you haven't already removed the clutch arm. When I reamed mine not long ago, the reamer was pretty long and so it might be a tight fit. However, if there is enough room to get the shaft out with the bell housing still on, then there is probably room for the reamer, but remember you have to ream bushings on both ends of the clutch shaft. Also, if you take out the bell housing, you can also change the pedal shaft at the same time. Mine was badly worn. Many years ago I went to Germany and tried to speak in German. It didn't work very well. People kept answering me in English. I see Marshall has some German skills from his last two posts. Alternatively, maybe at the same time the question is asked in English, you could also ask it in German, and anyone who wants can copy it and paste it in Google or some other translator which might also be a way to do it. Those translators are not perfect, but I think they go a long way to making the world a smaller place. (Just my own thinking) I think it is great that this is an international forum! |

Re: Clutch shaft rubbing?
Fair enough:
1st post: "Do you already have this booklet?" 2nd post: "Diagram of the clutch attached. Does this help?" Marshall |

Re: Clutch shaft polishing / bear off ?
Thank you for the replies
Please excuse the not perfect technical English. Nice, when the bell housing Railcarmover enjoy! The drawings help a lot, but I have a very good selection of original technical documents in English and dutch, but I can't find anywhere the bushings of the shaft. The parts are as helpful lists at Mike`s Georgia. regards Questus @ Bill the best answer I have, I write in the future in German |

Re: Clutch shaft rubbing?
Your English is VERY good, Questus, far better than most high school "graduates" in this country, who only speak in text-ese. Keep posting!
