I have a 31 model A with the rear hubs disassembled. I purchased new seals that go between the bearing and snap ring, but there is about another 1/4 " of space in the hub. What part am I missing? Is it the felt washer I've seen reference to? One print I've seen shows a felt on each side of the bearing but no seal. Again, the only parts I have to install in the hub are the bearing itself, the seal and the snap ring. Please help.

Hi war2guy,
I'm at the same place with mine today so I looked at a couple of drawings, It shows nothing but the bearing but I'm new at "A's" so I could be wrong. Rear End https://www.brattons.com/assemblies/...-assembly.html Rear Brakes https://www.brattons.com/assemblies/...sembly-16.html Regards Bill |

Tap the seal in just enough to install the snap ring. You don't want the bearing trapped by the seal.

That's about right. There is more room than you would expect.

I bought the seal installation tool from Brattons. It works great. REAR HUB SEAL DRIVER -
Use this tool to help you install the grease seal #1560 to the correct depth for the snap ring installation. Tool only no seal. 1560T 28-31 $19.95ea. Supergnat |

Hand pack the bearing with Mystik JT-6 High Temp Red grease, and you should be good to go for years. Don't use the grease zerk.
