Okay, I don't get it. What's missing? Is it a fuse? If so, what kind and amp?

The wiring diagram shows three connections for the clock : light power tied to the dash dimmer swich, a ground, and a fused power line for the clock itself. Haven't seen a spec for the rating but as the line is connected to the lighting breakers, I would believe that we're looking at 2 amps or less.

There are just two wires to the clock. One for power and one for lighting.
All grounding is thru the body.

Since my car is 12V, do I want to put the same kind of voltage reducer to the clock like I did with the gauges?
