Default 1940 Ford noisey trunk springs fix??

Has anybody experienced really noisey trunk springs on there Ford coupes?
These are new Bob Drake springs , they work fine and stay up as they should , but wow do they sound creaky! Has anybody come up with a cure for this?
Thanks for any ideas.

Actually my originals sound as you describe as well - I just thought it as normal...

Yes those springs were designed by Ford to squeak loudly as a theft deterrent.

I've had '40s with original springs and they sounded no different than the repos.

The probably squeak because they are new.
Will settle in with use and a drop or two of oil on the big hinge rivet and where spring rests.
Neither my originals nor DRAKE's repros squeaked.
Maybe you have a "mouse in the house".

I've had literally dozens of '40 Fords and never once experienced a squeak from the trunk lid supports.
Did you place a piece of anti-squeak material between the lid and upper mount? It was there originally. The authentic material was similar to a heavy gasket (paper) material.

I bet "Kube" is onto something. Maybe the squeak is coming from the trunk lid hinges that attach the trunk lid to the car body - not the trunk lid hinges that hold the trunk lid "UP".

I ended up installing some gasket material between spring brackets and the trunk lid , then used some 3 in 1 oil on the two contact points on the coil spring. One in the middle of the coil and one on the very end stop of the spring. I would say the springs are now much quieter and not as noticeable when I open and close the trunk lid.
Thanks to all,
Steve
