I'm looking for a reputable machinist to evaluate and machine the original numbers matching engine from my Model A. This engine is still standard bore. The crank journals are also standard. I'm hoping to find someone within an hours drive of Torrance Calif. I'm looking for someone who is very familiar with "A" engines.
Please PM me with any recommendations. Thank you, Scott |

Taylor Engine, Whittier was sold to a former employee after Jay Steele died. Are they still around? Jay was good, the new owner sounded like he knew something the only time I talked to him several years back.

Here is an old thread on the new Taylor Engine. I did a search and can't find
any current information on them. http://fordbarn.com/forum/showthread.php?t=59501 Bob |

It maybe best to stay away, a club member had to go and repo his engine as things were not getting done, it used to be the place to go when Jay was alive.

Jay built a Chevy small block for my 1928 roadster pickup back in '91. It still runs great today. So sorry to see him pass. Nice guy. I would always see many Model A blocks in there being machined when he was doing my motor.

I would also call Burbank Speed and Machine. Not sure what he knows about A engines, but I have dealt with them a lot. Worth checking out.

For what it's worth: This shop was mentioned in a WWII Jeep forum that I'm on very frequently. Jeep owner said that this shop was very good and highly recommends them as well. |

H and H Antique Engine Rebuilding is probably the biggest Model A rebuilder on the west coast. They are in La Crescenta-Montrose.
http://www.handhantique.com/ They are at all the major California swap meets. I have no experience with them.

Good advice that applies to any rebuilder being considered.

zzlegend and Dick both make very good points in the previous two posts. You won't be able to find H&H either here or on HAMB because the search engine gets confused be the "&". Go to GOOGLE and search for "H&H on Fordbarn" and "H&H on HAMB".

Turlock machine is doing an engine for us, we've seen several engines they have done and appear to be a quality machine shop, of course more than an hours drive from you.
