Default Removing steering wheel

I have a large crack at the base of the steering wheel which I'm going to try to repair. I have a the puller and I have taken the horn ring off. I know the bolt holes to attach the puller are 5/16 but I'm not sure if it's fine or course thread. Also the wire for the horn that comes up the shaft can that be pulled down from the bottom somewhere so that the end of the puller will fit into the shaft. I'm working on a 49. Thanks in advance.
