Door handle removal problem
On a 1930 tudor I can't get the right side door handle to come out. It's an old locking style and I wonder if there is some kind of clip on the square shaft to lock it in place to keep some one from pulling it off the door and breaking in. Can't find anything on this in any of my books. I read some place to turn the handle to the left a quarter turn and it will come out but this want turn to the left.

Re: Door handle removal problem
Turn the handle as if you are opening the door, but stop at 45 degrees. Then you should be able to pull the handle off. You may need to wiggle it a bit - they sometimes get rusty.

Re: Door handle removal problem
I feel your pain wait till you put it back together. I replaced the passenger handle on my 1929 Coupe and it took be 45minutes with a lot of profanity and banging to finally get it back together.

Re: Door handle removal problem
I fiddled around with one of the handles on my '31 delivery also. Looked for a something that could be impeding it's removal and finally just PULLED as hard as I could and out it came. No idea why it was so stubborn.

Re: Door handle removal problem
Roll the window down and spray Kroil on the shaft. If you remove the panel or latch mechanism be sure to lube all the moving parts and replace any broken or rusty springs.

Re: Door handle removal problem
I kept spraying mine with penetrating oil and had the inside panel removed and got a screwdriver inside and scraped the rust off and was finally able to pry it off. Good Luck it was a bitch to get off.
