Re: I think I'm going to have to go to FA
Ralph, If you just acquired those-- good score! I hope that all your blocks are good. So far I have not acquired a bad block, except a "junk" one that my machinist gave me years ago so he didn't have to get rid of it & I've been hanging on to it just in case. I think that due to the cold weather up here more people were prone to using some type of antifreeze product than was done in the lower 48 keeping freezing & cracking to a minimum. Bill

Re: I think I'm going to have to go to FA
I've noticed that myself, I had one a few years back that had a little corrosion leak on the pan rail, in the wide part in rear. I was able to drill it and put a plug in it , it's still running today.
Yes, I just picked these up today, all from a friend that's cutting back, he's not totally cured though, he's still got at least three flatheads. There's three 59AB's and two 8BA bare blocks. On top of the 39 motor I got the other day I now have an even dozen flatheads! Also got a four inch crank, and the icing on the cake, a set of Evans heads, and matching 2 pot manifold. And a pile of flathead parts, so much that I have to make another trip. Of course this next trip will be by the cover of darkness. |

It's my understanding that anytime you rescue an old Ford, or any parts for an old Ford, you will have 7 years of good luck. And vice versa, any time you needlessly trash an old Ford car or any Ford part, it means...... well, you can figure out the rest of the story

Not only that, a lot of sbc's. At most local shows here, there are usually only a couple flatheads.

Went over in alabama the other day to pick up a 27 T turtle deck from a friend and low and behold there was a 59AB and a 51 merc.complete. and a set of fenton heads that are like new and 3 duce intake, a set of reds headers etc. Well here i am again, just as addicted as i was 15 years ago, Guess it never goes away |

Re: I think I'm going to have to go to FA
That looks too much like underneath my bench. I once sold a '50 Merc that was apart and kicked myself heavily. So much so that a friend had me choose 2 engines in his stash to call my own. When I arrived home my wife asked just what I planned to do with them. Nothing I replied. She said she knew me too well and I must have some plan for them. I didn't and still don't but have a few more of their brothers along too now. It's so nice to go to sleep at night knowing that all the world is well since there are several flatheads tucked away in my garage. Although, my grandson came to me and asked if I knew that I have 9 engines in the garage. Ah, sweet insanity!!!!!! Hopefully the insanity will spread to him.
