I don't think thieves these days have enough intelligence to drive an old car...

A tracking device is a good idea. I used to think my car was safe inside the garage until I saw this video. The release is now zip tied.

All excellent suggestions gentlemen, thank you! That was an eye opener how quickly you can get a garage door open.

I remember saying about my 86 El Camino; "Who'd steal this old piece of shit?" Then they did, on my birthday no less. I had to pay $300 for towing and storage at the impound lot for two days after I knew it had been found so they could finish processing the paperwork. Then I had to pay a tow truck to haul it across the impound lot fence line because the city insurance would not allow you to put more than 2 tires on inside the fence, all 4 of mine were gone. Then I sold it back to the guy who I bought it from 8 years earlier, he repaired everything just in time for it to be stolen again. In the ensuing chase and shootout it took a couple bullet holes in the replacement interior he installed. The police, while extracting the bullets as evidence, sodomized it even more. So in addition to following the oil trail- sometimes a black cloud will serve. Did I mention this was literally right next door to that hot spot of law and order, Ferguson, Missouri?

Hid a key-operated battery switch somewhere inside or store your chewed gum inside the distributor cap. Stays fresh there.

First I would never have windows in my garage door and secondly none of my garage doors are less that 8' tall. Most are 14'. They will need a ladder or a man lift. My doors only have 1/8" door to jamb clearance and I have all commercial thermal brush weather stripping . The clams will have to brake in by burrowing under the 5' footings and bore through the slab. Otherwise ram the doors with a large vehicle. All my doors have steel struts on every panel and commercial rollers and hinges.

My car has a clutch pedal which is incomprehensible to most youths.

They do not need to be able to drive them. They just use a rollback.

None.

The foot starter in my car is sure to escape the attention of any would be thief. An old car guy could figure it out, but I am thinking the whole set up would baffle most younger folks.

I'd venture to say, 95% plus vintage cars that are stolen were never driven 10ft, just put on a rollback. More then likely its someone who knows what to do with a stolen old car. Not a joy rider. I'd also venture to say that 50% of those vehicles were just in the trailer when the trailer was stolen, the trailer being the object. Just a guess.

When I first read this post I thought: Why in the world would you need to track your car? Now, I see. It is best used for theft. A great idea I never even considered. Another reason why i love this site !!I

I have friends who use an Arrowtrack. http://www.arrowtrackfromeclipse.com/
Tracker is cool, it has an accelerometer so it detects the car being shaken (like a door being opened) and a GPS tracker. The device sends a message to your cell phone and PC when an alert is sensed. At any time, you can go on their web page and ask "where are you" and the unit will respond on a Google map type screen showing the location. Several friends have them in their cars, bikes, and trailers.
