I'm preparing myself to attempt my first grease job, before I do it I wanted to ask for any tips or tricks and any gotchas I should be aware of.....found this chart online and also found a good youtube video but I've learned to ask before doing something I've never done before.

Three things missing. Where the throttle shaft passes behind the engine there are two small cup like opening in the upright portion of the piece the bolts to the back of the block(see pictures). This needs a couple of drops of engine oil. Also a caution on the grease nipple for the rear wheel bearings. If you add too much it will end up in the backing plate and soak the brake shoes. Finally too much grease in the water pump will end up in the radiator. Also note that the water pump uses pressure gun grease. Some people recommend water proof grease for the water pump but I prefer a grease that will dissolve in the radiator instead of plugging up the tubes.

would it be a good idea to pop the spring loaded throttle, advance, and other linkage loose and lube the little balls with some grease? i see an awful lot of used ones that are egg shapped. i dont see how it could hurt...

I grease the balls for the 3 linkage rods.

A heat gun will help in loosening up the grease that has become hard over the years. If you use a propane torch HEAT it do not get it anywhere near red hot. The object is to soften, not burn the grease.

See if you can install the fittings to point in an accessible direction or put in angled ones. For instance, pretty much all the front end ones can be reached from the front without crawling underneath the car.

Make sure you have a Zurk fitting adapt as well.
