1935 Ford trans.
I have a 35 Ford that has no engine, but has a three speed trans. it does not have a clutch inspection plate only a 3/4 in. hole. Is this the right 35 Ford trans? #'s on the case 18-7006 and 40-7222. Thanks

Re: 1935 Ford trans.
That is an earlier than '35 transmission. The '35 would definitely have a rectangular clutch inspection window with a sheet metal cover held in place by two screws. The 35 transmission case would have a 48-XXXX part number on its back/rear surface.

Tom,
I'm pretty sure what you have is a '32 trans. It's a '32 for sure if there are 2 bosses on the rh side of the shift tower.......these bosses held the emer brake. Charlie ny |

Re: 1935 Ford trans.
Thanks JM 35 Sedan & charlie Ny. I'll try to get a few pics on to show what the trans looks like. The shift tower leans back a few degrees and there is no bosses on the side of it. All looks good inside, if it is a 32 trans, how good do they work? I know of a 39 trans for sale, maybe get it. thanks Tom

Re: 1935 Ford trans.
There should be a serial number right above where the inspection plate would have been if it were a later trans. Most probably *18-numbers*
That will tell for sure what the case came from. |

I posted a quicky guide to figuring out origins of early Ford transmissions and their contents in this old HAMB post:

If the shift tower leans back it's definitely a 32 trans,or tower anyway.
