Multi Carbs on Flathead thread

Want advice and pics of what you think is the best performing and looking multi carb Flathead intake setups. I'm partial to a tri power but how does that work compared to a 2x2, is it too much carb? This is for modified Flatheads, not stock so let's see them and please add your advice on reliability and performance.

Wow thats like asking whats the best tool...depends on what you want to do with it..and modified can be anything from mild to wild.
My vote for looks goes to 4 in a row

Why are you interested in the 3x2 setup (my favorite), just like the look? If so, you can block the two outer carbs and run off the center.

My 2x2 intake bias....Offenhauser 2x2 ..Speedway # 560-1075...I use this intake
on many of my 2x2 builds.The carbs sit a bit high which is good and while they are
close together this intake centralizes the carbs removing the way back bias of other
'regular' 2x2 intakes. It has heat which is a big plus for a street driven car. A regular
Ford generator will not quite fit in front of the front carb but an alternator surely
does. It is my preference to have as equal 'pull' on the water pumps as possible
and this intakes make that happen, Navarro makes an intake very close to this Offy.
I use this intake on all year Flathead motors. FYI the photo of 560-1075 in the Speedway catalog pg 304 is not correct, a correct photo is shown in their latest catalog on pg 305 upper right hand corner and in the Jan 2016 Street Rodder on pg
79 center pic.
My own fav is the ancient 50's Olds Rochester 4 brl carb on a Fenton
intake.

I use an older Edelbrock 2x2 intake on my 8ba. It must be very similar to the Offy intake Charlie described above. I like it because the two 94's are centered on the manifold front to rear and I just have enough room to run a 12 volt generator in the stock location. I don't believe Edelbrock makes this particular manifold any longer so if I had to replace it I would go with the Offenhauser that Charlie spoke of earlier.

Also I use straight linkage and used a Uni-Syn to synchronize the carbs.

For those of you that plan on changing the corburation of an 8BA, from stock to some other design. You must change the distributor as well, as the Load a matic won't operate correctly. Charly can help you there.

On the couple of multi carb FH motors I did I used an Offy Super Dual with 94's and a Bubba's modified Chevy distributor. Not only started good but ran really great.

Unless you give us the overall specifications of the engine (bore, stroke, cam, valve sizes, ported, etc) - along with the application (street, street/strip, etc) - than all we can do is have a 'beauty contest' . . . will have nothing to do with what works best for your application.

I have all sorts of different flathead manifolds - and I like them all for different applications . . . not a single one is best for everything.

You've got it Pete. I'm running 4 97's straight linkage on my 40. 276, runs like a clock, (strikes every hour LOL ) good gas mileage and just like one carb when you take off. The main thing you have to do is set the carbs up right. Mad Max built mine. Walt

I'd run triples if I could get my hands on a set of Stromberg 83s. They're smaller versions of the 97.

The nice thing about tri power with progressive linkage is that you can adjust it to only partially open the end carbs if you feel it's too much air flow.

I run an Evans triple with 48's, 45 mains, 63 power valves and straight up linkage. Engine is 286 ci with new Evans 67 cc heads, Schnieder 400 sr cam and hollow lifters, 1:55 valves,20 degrees total timing all in at 2200. Engine pulls hard to 5000 with 26 tooth zepher gears and 3:54 rears in a 32 highboy roadster. Fun engine if you like hotrod engines on the street.

I personally like a "Y" adapter on a stock manifold running progressive linkage on more stock engines. One they are, they are done - have it on my avatar and love it ....
