Hey Ron, what did you wind up with for pistons for ben's engine. Is this the one you wanted 3 ring pisyons for? Walt

Yea, I called Egge and they arrived today. I told them I was too stupid to use their web site. They said that's why they have an 800 number.
Yes, nice light , tight fitting 3 ring 3 5/16 + .020" over. At one time I'd fit them myself but I sold the boreing bar and I'm to old for honeing. |

Hey Ron, I know what you mean about finish honeing, I'm getting that way myself. I ought to sell my boring bar and farm out the boreing. Walt

Re: Ol'Ron pistons for Ben's engine.
I'm curious about these pistons if they are what has been described before in print. Are these high silicon types and could they be considered hypereutectic? It's been a while since the last 8CM rebuild that I did and I used 4-ring types back then. Would these be a good replacement for the old 4-rings for a stock type engine rebuild? I fixing to start another rebuild before too long and would appreciate your opinions on the subject.

Re: Ol'Ron pistons for Ben's engine.
My observation on four and three ring pistons, I am running 2 8bas in madel a's one with four ring and one with three ring pistons. I can turn the engines over with the fan on both engines but the three ring has a lot less drag and actually has more cranking compression than four ring. I figured with less drag I would pick up a little more power and a little less heat, so far that has been true. The four ring pistons are Egge at .080 over and the three ring are Ross at .125" over and the narrow 1.5 mm top rings. Have a 1000 miles on the Ross pistons and never had to add any oil yet, I like the three ring best. But the Ross are a little noisier when cold.

Re: Ol'Ron pistons for Ben's engine.
If they can be fit that tight, they would just about have to be hypereutectic. I've had good luck with EGGE in tha past so I'll have to try a set.
