Default 30-31 brake lite switch

I have a question about how the 30-31 brake lite switch works. If I mount it in the correct location at the rear of the main crossmember, the brake operating rod is approx 1 inch forward in front of the switch rod.
If I turn the switch around the other way which will pull instead of push, will this work the same way operating the brake lights when the brake pedal is pushed using a special rod or chain to pull the switch?

Appreciate any help from the Barn.
